• Background and Transformation:
• Lajpat Park had faced challenges due to its proximity to a dumping ground for garbage. Tractors would deposit a significant portion of the town’s waste along the roads surrounding the park.
• The resulting heaps of garbage made the area unpleasant, with toxic air and narrow, dirty roads. Residents had to keep their windows closed to avoid the stench.
• Inspired by Bhagalpur’s status as a Smart City, the youth group decided to take matters into their own hands. Their voluntary efforts focused on cleaning and renovating the park vicinity, which serves an urban population of over 10 lakh (1 million) people.
• The initiative received support from locals, including Dr. Anjana Prakash, a senior medical practitioner, and social worker Mithesh Bhardwaj.

• Achievements:
• The group removed garbage from the 200-meter-long road between the IMA building and Sarat Chandra Path, as well as from the 150-meter-long road adjacent to it.
• They leveled the flanks of these roads with earth, transforming them into cleaner, more accessible pathways.
• Additionally, they established a Janata Park enclosed with barbed wire and planted palm trees at strategic points.

• Educational Institutions: The area around Lajpat Park is home to three educational institutions: Zila School, Mokshada School, and Durgacharan School.
• Healthcare Facilities: Private hospitals and nursing homes contribute to the neighborhood’s vibrancy.
• Cultural and Administrative Centers: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) building, Kala Kendra, and the upcoming new town hall add to the area’s significance.
• Religious and Historical Sites: The Hanuman temple, Pir Baba’s graveyard, and the official residence of the district education officer are integral parts of the community.
