The Keoladeo National Park is located in Bharatpur in the state of Rajasthan. It was established in the year 1982 and is spread across 2,873 hectares. The park is governed by the R.T.D.C. (Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation). The Keoladeo National Park, Bharatpur is a Ramsar Wetland and a World Heritage Site. The park was initially called the 'Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary' on account of the thousands of birds which it plays host to during the winters.
As many as 230 species of birds are resident in the forests; migratory birds also visit the Keoladeo National Park, Bharatpur, which is also locally called 'Ghana'. The Keoladeo National Park houses dry grasslands, wetlands, woodland swamps, and woodlands. As many as 50 species of fish are found inside the national park. 13 species of snakes, 7 species of turtles, and 366 species of birds are found in the Keoladeo National Park, Bharatpur. Several thousand migratory water fowl visit the park for breeding and wintering. The park once hosted the rare Siberian Cranes too during the winters.
The Keoladeo National Park is best visited from October to March. To promote eco-tourism, the park can be explored on foot or via cycle rickshaw safaris as well!
