Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park

The Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, also referred to as the 'Darjeeling Zoo' is located in Darjeeling town in the West Bengal state. Opened to the public in the year 1958, the Zoo, situated at an altitude of about 7,000 feet is considered India’s largest high-altitude zoo. The Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park is most known for its successful captive breeding programs for animals adapted to alpine climates such as the Snow Leopard, the Red Panda, and the Himalayan Wolf, which is critically endangered. The Zoo is most known for its Red Pandas. It is the central hub for the Red Panda program of the Central Zoo Authority of India. The Zoo also breeds the Blue Sheep, Himalayan Monal, Himalayan Salamander, etc.
