The Charminar is an iconic structure of the city of Hyderabad. It is located in the newly formed Indian state of Telangana in South India. The monument is situated on River Musi's eastern bank. It is located close to the Laad Bazaar and the Makkah Masjid. The monument is afforded protection by the Archaeological Survey of India.

The Char Minar is one of India’s most recognized structures the world over and is one of the most prominent landmarks of the city of Hyderabad. The Charminar is located right at the center of the old city of Hyderabad. Not to be missed are the exquisite arches on all four sides of the monument. Minarets stand on each of the four corners of the structure, and are double-storied. There are various theories that narrate the construction purpose of this grand monument built by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah. It is believed that the Charminar was built to celebrate Plagues eradication in the city by the ruler. The Urdu word 'Char Minar' means 'Four Pillars'. There is a mosque situated on the second floor of the monument. The structure also houses a clock.

Visitors are not allowed to enter after 5:00 pm.
