Mehrangarh Fort
The Mehrangarh Fort is situated in Jodhpur in the state of Rajasthan in India. The Mehrangarh Fort is counted amongst one of India's largest forts. It was built by Rao Jodha in the year 1460. The fort is situated at a height of 410 feet and is enclosed by thick walls that stand guard.
There are numerous palace and courtyards inside the fort. On the left side of the fort stands a Chhatri of a soldier named Kirat Singh Soda who was martyred at the spot while defending the fort. There are seven gates for entry inside the fort, which were built by Maharaja Man Singh. The museum of the Mehrangarh Fort is considered one of the best museums in Rajasthan, with a rich collection of artifacts. A must see inside the museum is the collection of Royal Palanquins. Also on exhibition are the costumes, and arms of the Rathores. The Jodhpur fort is one of India's most magnificent forts that is a must visit for tourists. The literal meaning of 'Mehrangarh Fort' is 'Sun Fort' in Sanskrit for Surya is the chief deity of the Rathores of Jodhpur.
The fort closes at 05:00 pm and is best visited between September and March as the summers are extremely hot. The museum can be visited between 09:00 am and 05:00 pm. There is an entry fee of Rs. 70/- for Indians and Rs. 600/- for foreign nationals (the price includes audio guide).
