Konark Sun Temple

The Konark Sun Temple is located in the state of Odisha in India. It is a World Heritage Site recognized by UNESCO and is considered one of India's most iconic structures. The temple is believed to have been constructed in the 13th century by Narasimha Deva of the Ganga Dynasty. The temple is in the shape of a Chariot, the wheels of which are made out of stone. The Konark Sun Temple is counted amongst India's seven wonders.

The temple is located 35 km from Puri city. The Konark Sun Temple is built in the Kalinga architectural style. The temple is modeled in the form of the chariot of Surya - the Sun God. The Chariot is depicted as being pulled by seven horses. The temple is constructed with Khondalite rocks and faces the east so that the first rays of the sun strike the temple entrance. Not to be missed are the Nata Mandira (The Dance Hall) and the Bhoga Mandapa (The Dining Hall). The Konark archaeological museum is also located here.
