Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan, previously known as Rani Baug or Byculla Zoo, is a historic and renowned zoo located in Byculla, Mumbai. Initially named Victoria Gardens, it was officially renamed Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan in 1969 to honor the mother of Shivaji Maharaj. In 1980, the name was expanded to Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan va Pranisangrahalaya (Zoo). Recently, in 2022, the BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) approved a proposal to change the name to Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Vanaspati Udyan va Pranisangrahalaya, highlighting the addition of "Vanaspati," which signifies the inclusion of a botanical garden. This decision aligns with the zoo's 160th-anniversary celebration, adding to its legacy and charm.
