The Ranthambore National Park is one of the most prominent national parks situated near Sawai Madhopur town in Rajasthan. It is one of India's most famous and also one of North India's largest national parks spread across 392 square kilometers. The region is drained by the Banas and the Chambal rivers.
The Ranthambore National Park is named after the majestic Ranthambhor Fort, which is situated right inside the park. It was declared one of the Project Tiger Reserves in 1973. The Ranthambore National Park is most known for its tigers. The forest is of deciduous type and is also home to Leopards, Sloth Bear, Wild Boar, Striped Hyena, Rhesus Macaque, Crocodiles, etc. The park is also famous for the first aerial tiger relocation project from Ranthambore to Sariska in 2008. The park is also known for the tigress Machli, considered the world’s most photographed tigress. Machli went on to become the highest living tigress and died in 2016. The park also abounds in the species of flora: as many as 539 species of flowering plants are found inside the forests!
The best time to visit the Ranthambore National Park is from November to May. Morning and Evening safaris are organized for visitors at 06:30 am and 02:30 pm respectively in gypsies or canters.
