Gujarat is a state situated in the western region of the country. It is also called the 'Jewel of Western India'. The capital city of the state is Gandhinagar. Gujarat is truly a place with many worlds: it has archaeological sites such as Lothal and Dholavira of the Indus Valley Civilization; the coastal cities of Bharuch and Khambhat; the Rann of Kutch, etc- a shining example of unity in diversity!

Gujarat is famous for the Gir Wildlife Sanctuary, which is the last refuge of the Asiatic Lion. The Junagadh town has Emperor Ashoka’s famous edicts. The Rann of Kutch is a vast expanse of land where it is believed, the moon descends on earth! The Somnath temple of Gujarat is world famous as one of the 12 sacred Jyotirlingas!

While in Gujarat, do not miss a trip to Ahmedabad, considered the industrial capital of the state. The Gir forest is world famous for its majestic Asiatic lions that were once found across the country but are now restricted to this region. The Somnath temple is considered the very first Jyotirlinga- the twelve divine temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. Girnar, near Junagadh, is a famous pilgrimage center for the Jains. The Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat is associated with Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation. A visit to Gujarat is incomplete without a visit to Porbandar, the hometown of Mahatma Gandhi.
