The Dakshineswar Kali Temple is situated in Dakshineswar near the city of Kolkata. The chief deity of the temple is Bhavatarini, a form of Goddess Kali. The temple is situated on the bank of the river Hooghly and was constructed by Rani Rashmoni who was a philanthropist and an ardent devotee of Goddess Kali. The Dakshineswar Kali temple was brought much fame by Ramakrishna, the great mystic and Yogi, who visited the temple first in 1855, later becoming the head priest of the temple. The architecture of the temple is traditional Bengali Nava-ratna style.
