Kolkata Zoo, Alipore

The Kolkata Zoo is India's oldest zoological park. Also called Calcutta Zoo, Alipore Zoo and the Alipore Zoological Gardens, the Kolkata Zoo is one of the most visited attractions of the city of Kolkata. The Zoo was opened to the public in 1876 and is spread across an area of 46.5 acres. The Kolkata Zoo is famous as the home of Adwaita, the Aldabra Giant Tortoise which is estimated to have been 250 years old at the time of its death in 2006. The Kolkata Zoo is one of the city's most prominent winter tourist destinations and is annually visited by about three million people. The Zoo is home to the Royal Bengal Tiger, Asiatic & African Lion, Hippopotamus, Indian elephant, Jaguar, Great Indian One Horned Rhinoceros, etc.
