The Qutub Minar is located in Delhi's Mehrauli region and is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site - the Qutub Complex. The Qutub Minar is a 240-foot-high tower with five stories with a spiral staircase comprising three hundred and seventy-nine steps. The tower's construction is ascribed to Qutb ud-Din Aibak, founder of the Sultanate of Delhi in 1192. The next ruler, Iltutmish had three more stories added to the structure, thereby completing it. A story was further added later during the rule of Firoz Shah Tughlaq. The Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque surrounds the structure, as does the ancient Iron Pillar.
