Bodhi Tree
The Bodhi Tree is a huge Peepal tree considered sacred and is located in the city of Bodh Gaya in Bihar. This is the place where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. The tree is despited with heart-shaped leaves in the iconography of the religion. This place is thronged by pilgrims from all over who pay their respects to the Lord. It is also considered one amongst the four primary Buddhist pilgrimage sites and is one of the most important landmarks of Bodh Gaya. December 8 is celebrated as the Bodhi Day - a celebration of the Buddha's enlightenment under the sacred tree.
