Mahabodhi Temple
The Mahabodhi Vihar, also called the Mahabodhi Temple is located in Bodh Gaya, at a distance of about 96 km from Patna in Bihar. The place is said to mark the location where the Buddha attained enlightenment. The temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is known for the depictions of Avalokiteswara, Vajrapani, Marichi, Tara, etc. It is said that Emperor Ashoka had the temple constructed at the location of the Bodhi Tree in 260 BCE. The present structure is an incredible specimen of Indian brick work and is known for its beautiful architecture, being one of Eastern India’s oldest brick structures.
